Pension Protection Act of 2006

The Pension Protection Act of 2006 gives those at least 70 ½ years old the opportunity to help overcome financial challenges by making tax-free gifts directly to qualified charities like Conway Christian School.  Congress is allowing, in 2006-2007, individuals with traditional or Roth IRAs the opportunity to make tax-free gifts in any amount up to $100,000.  Couples with separate IRAs may each give up to that amount.

Making such gifts that would be subject to tax if withdrawn voluntarily or under mandatory withdrawal requirements may be wise for many.  This new law will be of particular interest to those who have been required to take unneeded IRA withdrawals or those who have experienced limitations on tax benefits in the past.
